Åsa Cederqvist Transit Sthlm

I am an interdisciplinary artist, living in Stockholm. I explore both construction and decay, the power of nature, various living entities and at the same time what new technology does to our ancient instincts. After my education (MFA konstfack 2000) I worked as a director of advertising and music videos (2000-), took various art teaching assignments, and then got a position as university lecturer in art at Textil, Konstfack (2010-2020).

Since 2020, I have devoted myself to further education, made several site-specific public sculptures, created participant-based co-creative processes, developed various AR works (augmented reality), made exhibitions and started a couple of cross-disciplinary collaborations, applied for research funding, been on a residency.

In addition to the Materialities (KKH) courses, where I acquired knowledge about, among other things, various digital tools, I have spent a lot of time studying various spiritual and practical practices such as shamanism, animism, yoga, eco psychology, witchcraft, permaculture.

My art is expressed through sculpture, installation, video, public representations, photography, sound and sometimes with so-called extensions in the form of stagings or digital media. I often create humorous and disturbing thought-provoking worlds that navigate between the subconscious and the rational, the physical and the ephemeral. More of my works often suggest a layered narrative with a strong sense of transformation, as if in constant becoming.

I cherish the complex and multi-layered. I sometimes say that I work sculpturally with film and storytelling with sculpture. What unites the choice of medium and materiality is my interest in crossing boundaries and presence. I am interested in the expression and inherent connotations and power of different materialities. Want to examine the materials “from the inside”.
