Theodor Österberg
Theodor Österberg (b. 1994) is a screenwriter, editor, and dramaturge. He is the head writer of the satirical miniseries “På Armlängds Avstånd” (SVT), which made a huge impact on the Swedish cultural debate in 2025. The series, like much of Theodor’s writing, is absurd, socially critical, quirky, and dark. He is also the co-writer of the upcoming feature film “Arne Goes to Space” (Nexiko) and an episode writer for “Strandhotellet” (Viaplay).
After graduating from the screenwriting program at Stockholm University of the Arts in 2021, Theodor has worked as a freelance writer, navigating the space between mainstream appeal and critical recognition. He has developed TV and film projects for commercial producers as well as written award-winning short films. Often described as a “Swiss army knife” in the writers’ room, he combines a strong technical understanding of storytelling structure with a sharp focus on characters and emotional depth. He frequently collaborates with other writers, bringing flexibility and a lack of ego to the table—while still maintaining a distinct personal voice.
His short film “Dansa min docka” (2022, directed by Jasmijn Kooijman) was nominated for a Guldbagge Award for Best Short Film and has won multiple international awards. The film tackles European migration policy in a satirical manner and exemplifies Theodor’s ability to blend heavy themes with humor without letting the comedy overshadow the drama. His graduation project, “Försvar” (2021), explored the Swedish arms trade and was nominated for a Student BAFTA.
Theodor writes across genres but is often drawn to comedy and outsider characters. With a background as a museum educator, he has a deep passion for stories set in the past. His guiding themes are humor, history, and music.
Alongside his writing, he occasionally performs stand-up and freestyle raps under the alias “Skill Barsgård.” Google it.
At Transit, Theodor focuses on developing new screenwriting projects and collaborations in film and television while also exploring writing for radio.
