Anna Thunström

Anna Thunström is a singer and performing artist who creates her own performances, blending classical singing with interactive performing arts.
Specialising in Early Music, primarily of the Renaissance and Baroque period, Anna spent several years singing with Dowland Works in London, an ensemble led by soprano Emma Kirkby. Over time, it became clear to Anna that her dream was not to be engaged as a concert singer, but she wished to bring Early Music out of its traditional context. To give such music a chance to reach new audiences, she chose to explore unexpected venues and to engage with the audience on a more personal level.
The performances Anna creates always stem from a theme that is close to her heart, where the audience members participate and are encouraged to reflect on themselves. Her aim is to create experiences that linger, open up for conversations, and over time she has developed her own artistic practice, weaving together music and performing arts into interactive and immersive experiences.
Anna also collaborates with other artists across various disciplines, creating video works, performances and sound-based meditations, and she enjoys taking part in projects by other creators. She also writes her own texts and music, both independently and in collaboration with others, and enjoys discovering unexpected combinations of voice and sound, constantly searching for new ways to express herself.
Anna’s driving force is her curiosity to explore what happens in the meeting between herself, the music and the audience, along with the hope to create resonance and reflection.
