Annica Styrke
Annica Styrke is a choreographer and one of the driving forces behind the performing arts group Johanssons pelargoner och dans. With a focus on the audience’s embodied experience, the group creates immersive performances in which the audience actively participates. Through their works, the audience is given the opportunity to explore and renegotiate their place in society, in the social, and in history. Johanssons pelargoner och dans primarily create work for children and young people, with a particular interest in the close and sincere encounter with the audience.
Through works such as “The Choreography”, “Medelgympa”, and “I’m Thinking of You”, the group have developed an interactive format in which the audience participates by following instructions through headphones. Several of their works have been selected for the Performing Arts Biennial for children and youth in Sweden. The group tours extensively both in Sweden and internationally and received the Birgit Cullberg Scholarship in 2025.
Currently in development is the upcoming work “beginnings”, with a premiere planned for autumn 2027. It will be a large-scale participatory piece in which the audience finds themselves in the middle of the dance – while also becoming dancers themselves as part of a grand composition.
