Auli Laitinen
Auli Laitinen is an artist based in Stockholm, Sweden educated at HDK–Valand, University of Gothenburg (MFA, 2000), with exchange studies at SUNY New Paltz, US. She has since then maintained an active studio practice with an extensive engagement within the contemporary craft field.
Her work explores contemporary agreements on adornment and sees jewellery and dress as a social, material and political bearer of meaning, situated between body and public space.
Laitinen is frequently mixing traditional craft techniques and ready mades, with a special devotion to textile and has been exhibited nationally and internationally since her graduation in 2000 from HDK-Valand Academy of Art and Design at the University of Gothenburg and is represented at the Swedish National Museum in Stockholm, the Röhss Museum in Gothenburg, Sweden and in private collections.
Alongside her artistic practice, she is active as an educator and organizer of collaborations and arenas for idea exchange, and has held teaching and jury positions at Konstfack, HDK–Valand and Rhode Island School of Design with a current position at Konstfack as a guest senior lecturer. The time at Transit will be focused on finding new and different arenas for exploratory craft based art and writing.
