Maria Guldbrandsø Tórgarð

Maria Guldbrandsø Tórgarð (b. 1997) is an award-winning film director and artist from the Faroe Islands, currently based in Stockholm, Sweden. She graduated with a BFA in film directing from Stockholm University of the Arts in 2025. Her main focus is on documentary films, but she also works with experimental forms and fiction films. Her debut feature length documentary Skál (2021) won best documentary at Chicago IFF, New Nordic Voice at Nordic Panorama and was nominated in the main competition at CPH:DOX. She is currently developing her next feature length documentary KNOTS. With which she has won the Nordic Talents Pitch Prize, SFI Wild Card and Below Zero Pitch Award.

Alongside filmmaking, she creates immersive, interactive, video-based installations and performances, where she challenges the boundaries of traditional cinema and engages audiences in multisensory ways.
